A survey released by Citibank Hong Kong on November 18, titled "Hong Kong Millionaire Survey 2025," shows that as of August 2025, Hong Kong has 395,000 millionaires, with a median net worth of HK$20.5 million.
The survey defines "millionaires" as individuals with a net worth exceeding HK$10 million and at least HK$1 million in liquid assets. It interviewed over 2,600 Hong Kong residents aged between 21 and 79.
The findings indicate an increase in the number of millionaires in Hong Kong this year, with an average age of 55. This group accounts for 7% of the city's population aged 21 to 79. Their median net worth stands at HK$20.5 million, with a median liquid asset value of HK$10 million.
On average, these millionaires accumulated their first HK$1 million by the age of 34, primarily through investments in stocks and funds.
Cindy Sing, Head of Client Strategy and Sales Management at Citibank Hong Kong, noted that the survey highlights a shift in wealth management preferences among Hong Kong's millionaires. Their focus has expanded beyond traditional assets to include more active wealth management strategies and diversified asset allocation. Additionally, they are placing greater emphasis on wealth succession planning.
