He Xiaopeng achieved remarkable results, and Lei Jun led Xiaomi executives in a wave of praise, once again demonstrating the rare "innocent friendship" in the automotive industry.
On August 15, He Xiaopeng announced that the new XPeng P7's 24-hour endurance test created a new record, covering 3,961 kilometers and surpassing Xiaomi YU7's previous record of 3,944 kilometers.
Previously, Lei Jun had shared the historical records of this challenge: the 2019 Porsche Taycan covered 3,425 kilometers, the 2024 Mercedes CLA achieved 3,717 kilometers, and the 2025 Xiaomi YU7 reached 3,944 kilometers.
When Lei Jun saw XPeng's excellent performance, he demonstrated great sportsmanship by reposting the announcement and giving XPeng a thumbs up. Following Lei Jun's lead, numerous Xiaomi executives and employees reposted and liked XPeng's record-breaking announcement.
Among them were Lu Weibing, Hu Zhengnan (Investment Partner at Shunwei Capital), Zhang Jianhui (Xiaomi Vice President), Shen Deqiang (Xiaomi New Media Director), Wang Hua (Xiaomi PR General Manager), and Xiao Pang (Xiaomi User Operations Manager), along with the official Xiaomi Auto account.
Those unaware might have thought it was Xiaomi that broke the record! He Xiaopeng and company executives also reciprocated with likes for Xiaomi, showing mutual appreciation.
After seeing so many disputes in the automotive industry, witnessing such friendly interactions instantly feels heartwarming.
The reason why outsiders describe the relationship between Lei Jun and He Xiaopeng as "innocent friendship" has its basis. Lei Jun and He Xiaopeng have been friends for over 20 years and are also business partners, supporting each other throughout their entrepreneurial journeys.
Lei Jun and He Xiaopeng first met around 2000, when He Xiaopeng was founding UC and Lei Jun was already a well-known figure in the internet industry. As fellow natives of Hubei Province, they shared compatible personalities and passion for technology entrepreneurship, gradually building a deep friendship.
During UC's critical development phase, Lei Jun served as an angel investor, injecting $4 million to help UC overcome difficulties. After He Xiaopeng founded XPeng Motors, Lei Jun's Shunwei Capital participated in XPeng's A1 and C funding rounds. In 2019, Xiaomi Group invested $50 million in XPeng Motors.
Lei Jun's determination to enter the automotive industry was significantly influenced by his good friends He Xiaopeng and Li Bin, who both encouraged him to build cars. Lei Jun has publicly acknowledged that his decision to manufacture cars was due to the strong encouragement from He Xiaopeng and Li Bin.
Additionally, Xiaomi Auto and XPeng Motors collaborate in business. On December 25, 2024, Xiaomi Auto announced a charging network partnership with XPeng Motors, with over 9,000 XPeng charging stations joining the Xiaomi charging map.
Last year, when Lei Jun visited XPeng Motors' Guangzhou headquarters, He Xiaopeng displayed a banner saying "innocent friendship." At that time, He Xiaopeng posted that August 2024 marked UC's 20th anniversary and XPeng's 10th anniversary, calling Lei Jun both mentor and brother. He shared photos with Lei Jun from the UC era when they were both young.
Throughout the development of Xiaomi Auto and XPeng Motors, Lei Jun and He Xiaopeng have supported each other. After Xiaomi Auto's first model SU7 was released, He Xiaopeng was among the first to place an order in support. Meanwhile, Lei Jun recommended the XPeng G7 during his livestream, suggesting that users needing cars urgently could consider it to alleviate Xiaomi's production capacity pressure while also helping boost XPeng's sales.
The two even coordinate their product launch schedules. Xiaomi SU7 was released on June 26, while XPeng G7 was scheduled for July 3, forming a "double-7 combination" to compete against the Model Y.
