The China Banking Association's Research Committee on Industry Development recently completed the 2025 "GYROSCOPE" evaluation of commercial banks' steady development capabilities and communicated the results to participating institutions.

Since its launch in 2015, the "GYROSCOPE" evaluation system has assessed commercial banks across nine dimensions for eleven consecutive years: corporate governance capability, sustainable profitability, risk management, operational efficiency, service quality, competitiveness, digital transformation, employee competency, and capital replenishment capacity. These metrics comprehensively measure banks' ability to serve the real economy while pursuing high-quality development. In 2025, 153 commercial banks participated voluntarily, including 18 national banks (comprising large state-owned and joint-stock commercial banks), 76 city commercial banks, and 59 rural commercial banks. These institutions collectively represent 89.62% of total banking assets, ensuring strong industry representation.

To ensure fairness, transparency, and objectivity, the Association's Research Committee established the evaluation framework with industry input, regularly updating the methodology. Cross-bank working groups comprising diverse bank types then scored participants based on annual reports and submitted data using standardized statistical methods, producing the final 2025 evaluation results.

Results indicate significant progress across key areas: deeper integration of Party leadership with corporate governance, enhanced credit support for strategic sectors like the "Five Priority Themes," comprehensive cost management systems, accelerated digital transformation, and proactive balance sheet optimization to mitigate net interest margin pressures. These efforts collectively improve financial-economic alignment and support real economy growth.

Moving forward, broader participation is encouraged to refine the "GYROSCOPE" system collaboratively, enhancing its scientific rigor and industry leadership to further promote high-quality banking sector development.
