OpenAI has announced the completion of a new funding round totaling $110 billion, with a pre-money valuation reaching $730 billion. SoftBank contributed $30 billion, NVIDIA invested $30 billion, and Amazon provided $50 billion.
OpenAI has also entered into a strategic partnership with Amazon and secured next-generation inference computing capabilities through collaboration with NVIDIA.
According to OpenAI, demand for artificial intelligence from consumers, developers, and enterprises is surging. Meeting this demand and making OpenAI’s products widely accessible requires three key elements: computing power, distribution, and capital. As the funding round progresses, additional financial investors are expected to join.
OpenAI revealed that since the beginning of this year, weekly Codex users have more than tripled. An increasing number of individuals are now creating, automating, and deploying software that previously required a full engineering team. Over 9 million paying business users rely on ChatGPT for work, while startups, enterprises, and governments are building on the OpenAI platform to transform how their products and services are designed, delivered, and operated. Teams are rapidly expanding deployments across engineering, support, finance, sales, and operations, starting from individual productivity.
ChatGPT serves as the entry point for many users into artificial intelligence, with over 900 million active weekly users and more than 50 million consumer subscribers. User growth accelerated significantly at the start of the year, with January and February expected to be the strongest months for new user acquisition in history.
Users leverage ChatGPT for learning, writing, planning, and development. As usage increases, the product improves in ways users immediately notice—faster responses, greater reliability, enhanced security, and more consistent performance.
The new valuation increases the value of the OpenAI Foundation’s stake in OpenAI Group to over $180 billion, further strengthening one of the most resource-rich nonprofit organizations in history.
OpenAI and Amazon also announced a multiyear strategic partnership aimed at accelerating AI innovation for enterprises, startups, and end consumers worldwide.
OpenAI will expand its long-standing collaboration with NVIDIA, including access to 3 GW of dedicated inference capacity and training on the 2 GW Vera Rubin system. This builds upon existing Hopper and Blackwell systems already operational with Microsoft, OCI, and CoreWeave. The expansion of capital and infrastructure collectively enhances OpenAI’s ability to train and deploy cutting-edge models globally.
