Recently, restaurant chain "Xibei" has been embroiled in a controversy over pre-made dishes.
On September 10, Luo Yonghao posted on social media to criticize the chain restaurant brand Xibei: "Haven't eaten at Xibei for a long time. Had a meal there with colleagues after getting off the plane today and found that almost everything was pre-made dishes, yet so expensive. I hope the country will promote legislation soon to mandate restaurants to clearly indicate whether they use pre-made dishes."
On September 11, Xibei founder Jia Guolong responded to various questions from the public at the restaurant where Luo Yonghao had dined, and stated that he "will sue Luo Yonghao."
Jia Guolong stated that the catering industry does not avoid pre-processed dishes, but "we are not pre-made dishes. The state has strict definitions for pre-made dishes." "According to national regulations, we don't have a single pre-made dish, and 100% are not pre-made dishes." "Luo Yonghao saying everything is pre-made dishes is disgusting and quite hurtful to us."
Jia Guolong also explained that pre-processing and pre-made dishes are two different things, because pre-processing means preparing in advance, processing ahead of time, but pre-made dishes are finished products. He pointed out that what is completed entirely in-store cannot be called pre-made dishes; it involves pre-processing techniques.
On September 13, Luo Yonghao posted on Weibo mentioning @Jia Guolong, with content stating: Regarding the question of "whether Xibei restaurant's dishes are pre-made dishes," the China Chain Store & Franchise Association has already provided the answer. The Pre-made Food Industry Development Report shows that data indicates chain restaurant enterprises such as Zhen Gongfu, Yoshinoya, and Xibei have pre-made dish ratios exceeding 80%.
