Trump Plans to Sue BBC Today or Tomorrow

On December 15 local time, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he may file a lawsuit against the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) later that afternoon or on the morning of December 16.

Trump previously mentioned on November 14 while aboard Air Force One en route to his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, "We will sue them (BBC), seeking damages between $1 billion and $5 billion."

The legal action stems from a BBC documentary titled *Trump: The Second Chance?*, aired last year by the *Panorama* program. A leaked internal BBC memo from November 3 revealed that the documentary spliced two segments of Trump's speech together, making it appear as though he incited supporters to participate in the January 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol riot. This editing decision sparked significant public controversy.

On November 10, Trump's legal team demanded that the BBC retract the documentary and issue an apology, threatening legal action with damages of at least $1 billion if their demands were not met. The BBC apologized on November 13 for the misleading editing but rejected Trump's compensation request.
