Workers are sacked for homophobia at work. So should AFL players

The recent four-match suspension of Adelaide Crows’ footballer Izak Rankine for a homophobic slur towards another player has brought into sharp focus conversations that need to be had around the impact of harmful language, mental health and inclusivity in sport.

The incident also highlights the disparity between how such conduct is treated on the football field as opposed to non-sporting workplaces, leaving me wondering why such a lenient punishment was imposed.
