The AFL has appointed a former Labor spinner as its new head of communications in a messy week when its media handling of two high-profile cultural issues has come under fire.
Sharon McCrohan is expected to join the leadership team later this year, replacing long-time executive Brian Walsh. McCrohan worked for former Victorian premiers Steve Bracks and John Brumby, former federal opposition leader Bill Shorten, and more recently advised Luke Sayers.
