Woodside gas extension hangs over 11th-hour World Heritage bid

The Albanese government’s move to extend the life of Woodside’s North West Shelf gas project will be highlighted by Indigenous advocates as proof the country’s environmental laws cannot protect precious rock art at the centre of a World Heritage bid.

Australian state and federal ministers will travel to Paris this week in a last-minute bid to convince UNESCO to grant a rock-art-rich area of Western Australia’s Burrup Peninsula World Heritage status.
