BlockBeats reported on June 14, according to CNBC, Coatue Management founder Philippe Laffont stated that although Bitcoin's early high volatility once deterred investors, multiple factors are now driving this mainstream crypto asset to become a key component in investment portfolios.
The tech-focused hedge fund founder shared these insights on Thursday at the Coinbase Crypto State Summit held in New York City.
Laffont pointed out that, firstly, though Bitcoin has risen nearly 13% so far in 2025, its overall volatility is decreasing. He noted that Bitcoin's significant price fluctuations in the past were a deterrent for many potential investors and were a major reason why Coatue refrained from investing in Bitcoin at one point.
He remarked on stage: "What interests me is, maybe... the cost of entering Bitcoin is getting smaller. If its Beta value (a measure of an asset's volatility compared to the market) narrows, that would make a lot of sense."
Additionally, he mentioned that institutional investors starting to embrace Bitcoin is another indicator of the asset's growing maturity. For instance, BlackRock has been one of the pioneers in pushing for the listing of Bitcoin spot ETFs.
