Critical minerals PM’s main weapon in Trump tariff talks

Convincing Donald Trump that Australia can guarantee America a reliable supply of critical minerals and rare earths remains Anthony Albanese’s best option of securing an exemption from the US president’s tariff war, the government is being advised.

As debate erupted over the possibility of Australia relaxing biosecurity laws in relation to US beef, a senior government official intimate with negotiations and speaking on condition of anonymity said the main game was critical minerals.
