Customers won’t pay for green metals, mining veteran warns Labor

Mining industry leader Andrew Michelmore has questioned the Albanese government’s grand pivot to green metal production, saying it will only be embraced by consumers when costs fall dramatically.

Michelmore, who chairs Century Aluminium and is a veteran of major mining groups such as Alcoa, Western Mining and Rusal, said the cost of producing green metals would need to be on par with traditional carbon-intensive metals.
