Western Sydney Uni to cut 400 jobs to stave off $80m deficit

Western Sydney University is set to cut up to 400 jobs to stave off an $80 million deficit in 2026 as a result of declining demand from both domestic and international students and increased competition from its rivals.

Vice chancellor Professor George Williams said the university was forced to take drastic action as student study patterns changed, including taking fewer courses partly due to cost-of-living pressures.
