TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan discussed the current geopolitical and geoeconomic situations during a meeting on Wednesday, April 9, 2025.

Those topics were mainly broached in view of the United States' reciprocal tariffs announcement and the developments of Israel's war on Gaza.

Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya accompanied President Prabowo to the meeting, which took place at the Qasr Al Shati Palace in Abu Dhabi.

According to a statement released by the Presidential Secretariat, upon arrival, President Prabowo was greeted by the UAE President at the main door of the palace.

During the welcoming procession, the two leaders introduced each member of their delegation.

After that, they posed for a group photo and entered the meeting room.

"This meeting is an important momentum for the two countries to strengthen cooperation in various strategic fields," as per the Presidential Secretariat statement.

At the end of the meeting, the two leaders listened to an announcement regarding the results of cooperation between Indonesia and the UAE, outlined in eight memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and a letter of intent (LoI) agreed upon by the two parties.

In the same statement, the Presidential Secretariat said that the meeting was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere, reflecting the close ties between Indonesia and the UAE.

The UAE is the first stop on Prabowo's five-nation Middle East tour, during which he will also visit Türkiye, Egypt, Qatar, and Jordan.

Prabowo and his entourage left from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, Jakarta, around 01:05 a.m. Western Indonesia Time (WIB) on Wednesday.

Before leaving for Abu Dhabi, the President said that the aim of the visit is to hold discussions with the leaders of Middle Eastern countries, especially regarding Indonesia's plan to evacuate Palestinians from Gaza.
