CATL (SHE: 300750) and BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) remained the world's 2 largest electric vehicle (EV) battery makers in the first two months of this year.

Global electric vehicle (EV) battery usage in January-February totaled 129.9 GWh, up 40.3 percent from 92.6 GWh in the same period last year, according to data released today by South Korean market researcher SNE Research.

CATL installed 49.6 GWh of EV batteries in January-February, up 39.7 percent from 35.5 GWh in the same period a year ago.

The Chinese power battery giant continued to be the world's No. 1 battery supplier in January-February with a 38.2 percent share, and remained the only battery supplier in the world with a market share of more than 30 percent.

That's slightly lower than its 38.3 percent share in January-February 2024 and lower than its 38.9 percent share in January 2025.

Not only major players such as Zeekr (NYSE: ZK), Aito, Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI), and Xiaomi (HKG: 1810, OTCMKTS: XIACY) are adopting CATL's batteries, but so are many of the world's major OEMs such as Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA), BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen are using CATL batteries, the SNE Research report noted.

The company was second with a 16.9 percent share in January-February, up from 13.1 percent in January-February 2024 and flat from January 2025.

LG Energy Solution's installed power battery volume was 12.7 GWh in January-February, up 8.5 percent year-on-year.

The South Korean company continued to rank third in January-February with a 9.8 percent share, down from 12.6 percent a year earlier while up from 9.3 percent in January 2025.

South Korea's SK On was fourth with a 4.7 percent share, Japan's Panasonic was fifth with a 3.9 percent share, and China's CALB was sixth with a 3.8 percent share.

China's Gotion High-tech, South Korea's Samsung SDI, China's Svolt Energy, and Eve Energy ranked seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth, respectively, with shares of 3.5 percent, 3.2 percent, 2.7 percent, and 2.4 percent in January-February.

BYD's share grew in February as NEV sales rebounded, while CATL saw a small decline.
