Investors who take an interest in Diversified Energy Company PLC (LON:DEC) should definitely note that the Independent Non-Executive Director, David Turner, recently paid UK£10.15 per share to buy UK£152k worth of the stock. That's a very decent purchase to our minds and it grew their holding by a solid 45%.

Diversified Energy Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Notably, that recent purchase by David Turner is the biggest insider purchase of Diversified Energy shares that we've seen in the last year. That implies that an insider found the current price of UK£10.50 per share to be enticing. That means they have been optimistic about the company in the past, though they may have changed their mind. While we always like to see insider buying, it's less meaningful if the purchases were made at much lower prices, as the opportunity they saw may have passed. The good news for Diversified Energy share holders is that insiders were buying at near the current price.

In the last twelve months Diversified Energy insiders were buying shares, but not selling. Insider Ownership Of Diversified Energy

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. It appears that Diversified Energy insiders own 2.9% of the company, worth about UK£18m. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.

So What Do The Diversified Energy Insider Transactions Indicate?

It's certainly positive to see the recent insider purchases. And an analysis of the transactions over the last year also gives us confidence. But on the other hand, the company made a loss during the last year, which makes us a little cautious. Given that insiders also own a fair bit of Diversified Energy we think they are probably pretty confident of a bright future.
