TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Christiawan Nasir reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening the global health architecture in anticipation of future pandemics. This statement was made during his meeting with Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) representatives at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta on Wednesday, February 12
CEPI’s visit aims to discuss enhancing their collaboration with Indonesia, focusing on promoting national vaccine production independence while ensuring equitable access to health products for all nations worldwide.
“Indonesia’s collaboration with CEPI is crucial for advancing the vaccine industry, strengthening local manufacturing capacity, and building a pandemic response ecosystem in Indonesia,” Arrmanatha stated, as quoted from the official Kemlu website. He highlighted that this initiative aligns with the priorities set by President Prabowo Subianto.
Strengthening Partnerships and Vaccine Production Capacity
The CEPI delegation was led by Chair of the CEPI Board, Jane Halton, and CEO Richard Hatchett. "The role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is critical in advancing Indonesia's partnership with CEPI. Indonesia has been one of CEPI’s strategic partners since 2020," Jane Halton emphasized.
CEPI also supports Indonesia’s vaccine production capacity, including collaboration with PT Bio Farma, one of Indonesia’s prominent vaccine manufacturers.
Arrmanatha expressed gratitude for CEPI’s support and emphasized the need for further cooperation. “I hope CEPI can also support the development of a tuberculosis vaccine in Indonesia. Combating tuberculosis is a priority for the Indonesian government, and it aligns with CEPI’s program,” he added.
