TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - KAI Commuter has brought in a new trainset consisting of 12 new train cars from CCRC Qingdao Sifang. These new trains are expected to increase capacity and make commuting in the Greater Jakarta or Jabodetabek area more comfortable.
Joni Martinus, VP Corporate Secretary of KAI Commuter, explained that the new trains passed factory acceptance testing before being shipped to Indonesia. "The arrival of these new trains is in accordance with the planned schedule, so it is expected to help the mobilization of commuter line users more optimal," he said in a written statement on Friday, January 31, 2025.
Upon arrival in Indonesia, the trains will undergo dynamic testing to make sure everything functions properly before they start carrying passengers. As required by Transportation Ministerial Regulation No. 49 of 2023, all commuter trains must be certified by the Directorate General of Railways of the Ministry of Transportation.
"We conduct this process to ensure that all safety and operational standards have been met. These new commuter trains are expected to meet the high demand for public transportation," Joni said.
This fleet expansion is a strategic step for KAI Commuter, especially with the growing number of passengers. During the Christmas and New Year holiday period of 2024/2025, over 1,275,209 people used the commuter line, an increase from the previous year.
"This shows that the commuter line is increasingly becoming the primary choice for the public. Therefore, we continue to work hard to ensure that the procurement and dynamic testing of new trains can proceed smoothly without obstacles," he explained.
Joni emphasized that the commuter line is more than just transportation; it also plays a vital role in supporting local economies. "We are committed to continuously improving services to ensure that the commuter line remains a comfortable, safe, and affordable mode of transportation for all," he said.
Joni further thanked the government and all parties who have supported the procurement of these new commuter trains. "We hope that the arrival of these new trains can further enhance the quality of urban transportation in Jabodetabek," he concluded.
