TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka attended the rehearsal for the presidential inauguration at the Nusantara Building in the parliament complex, Central Jakarta, on Saturday, October 19, 2024. Gibran arrived around 10:20 a.m. Jakarta Time.
Gibran came alone without President-elect Prabowo Subianto. Earlier, the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) hoped both Gibran and Prabowo could participate in the presidential inauguration rehearsal.
"Hopefully yes. We hope the Vice President-elect can attend to witness the procession that will be held on the 20th (of October)," said Acting Secretary General of MPR Siti Fauziah on Friday, October 18, 2024.
As of Friday evening, Siti mentioned there was no confirmation of Prabowo's attendance for the rehearsal. Nevertheless, she hoped that the president-elect would attend.
Previously, Siti said that all leaders of MPR would attend the presidential inauguration rehearsal, from MPR Speaker Ahmad Muzani to eight Deputy Speakers from all factions and representatives of the Regional Representative Council (DPD).
The MPR also conducted a dress rehearsal on Friday, but several adjustments are required for the rehearsal today.
Siti also said that the presidential inauguration scheduled for Sunday, October 20, will start at exactly 10:00 a.m. "We hope that invited guests, especially senators and other guests, will be at the MPR Building at 07:00 a.m. or 8 a.m. at the latest and have entered the plenary room."
The event will begin with a rendition of Indonesia Raya and an inaugural speech by the MPR Speaker. The procession will be followed by the reading of the General Elections Commission's (KPU) decision by the KPU Chairperson. After that, Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka will be sworn in as the new president and vice president of Indonesia for the next five years. The new president will then deliver his first speech.
