According to the latest data from Omdia released on October 13, large-size display shipments (9 inches and above) are projected to grow 2.8% year-over-year in 2025. Despite anticipated declines in the TV and monitor markets, this growth will be driven by strong performance in notebook and tablet mobile PC displays.
**Mobile PC Display Demand Offsets TV and Monitor Market Decline**
In 2025, large-size LCD shipments are expected to increase 2.2% year-over-year to 873.9 million units. While LCD TV and monitor shipments are projected to decline 3.4% and 1.8% respectively, significant growth in tablet and notebook PC LCD shipments is expected to offset these declines, with projected increases of 17.5% and 4.2% respectively.
The large-size OLED market will experience even stronger growth momentum, with shipments expected to surge 19.0% year-over-year in 2025. This growth will be led by OLED products for monitors and notebooks, with projected increases of 60.9% and 45.9% respectively. In contrast, tablet OLED shipments are expected to decline 2.3%, while OLED TV display shipments are projected to grow 3.1%.
Peter Su, Principal Analyst at Omdia, commented: "The market is showing significant differentiation driven by regional strategies. In the LCD sector, Chinese panel manufacturers are capturing IT display market share by expanding capacity at new 8.6-generation IPS LCD fabs, while other manufacturers like LG Display and Sharp are focusing on improving profitability through structural adjustments. Meanwhile, in the OLED sector, Korean manufacturers are expanding into IT applications such as monitors and notebook PCs to compensate for weak OLED TV performance. This allows them to fully leverage their advantages in high-end tablets - despite overall tablet OLED market decline, shipments to clients like Apple and Samsung still grew 3.6%."
