Tesla's insurance registrations in China decreased by 19.32 percent last week compared to 12,270 in the previous week.
Major electric vehicle (EV) makers saw a mixed performance in insurance registrations in China last week.
For the week of July 14-20 -- week 29, 2025 -- Nio (NYSE: NIO) branded vehicles saw insurance registrations of 2,500 units in China, up 3.73 percent from 2,410 the previous week, according to figures shared by several auto industry watchers on Weibo today.
Nio Inc, which includes the Nio, Onvo, and Firefly brands, had 4,900 insurance registrations in China last week, up 19.51 percent from 4,100 the previous week.
Insurance registrations figures for Nio's sub-brands Onvo and Firefly last week are not yet available.
Nio Inc delivered 24,925 vehicles in June, a new high for the year and the second highest on record. That's up 17.52 percent year-on-year and up 7.29 percent from May.
Onvo delivered 6,400 vehicles in June, up 1.89 percent from May, and Firefly delivered 3,932 vehicles, up 6.85 percent from May.
Onvo began pre-sales of its flagship large SUV (sport utility vehicle), the L90, on July 10, with an official launch set for July 31.
Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) saw 9,900 insurance registrations in China last week, down 19.32 percent from 12,270 the week before.
The US EV maker has a plant in Shanghai that builds the Model 3 sedan and Model Y crossover, both for deliveries to local customers and as an export hub for it.
It announced last week that it will launch the six-seat Model Y L in China this fall with a larger size than the five-seat Model Y.
Tesla filed for a new Model 3 variant in China that could bring a longer 800 km range, according to a regulatory catalog last week.
Tesla China sold 71,599 vehicles in June, including those sold in China and those exported from China to overseas markets, according to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA). That's up 0.83 percent from 71,007 vehicles in the same period last year and up 16.12 percent from 61,662 vehicles in May.
The US EV maker's retail sales in China in June were 61,484 units, the second highest of the year behind March's 74,127 units.
Its Shanghai plant exported 10,115 vehicles in June, down 13.89 percent from 11,746 a year earlier and down 56.16 percent from 23,074 in May.
Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) registered 6,700 insurance registrations last week, up 15.12 percent from 5,820 in the previous week.
The company delivered 34,611 vehicles in June, marking the eighth consecutive month of deliveries over 30,000 units. This is a decrease of 224.44 percent year-on-year and down 3.24 percent from May.
Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI) had 7,000 insurance registrations last week, down 4.50 percent from 7,330 the week before.
It delivered 36,279 vehicles in June, a decrease of 24.06 percent year-on-year and down 11.20 percent from May.
Li Auto began accepting pre-orders for the Li i8 six-seat SUV on July 17, saying the expected price range is RMB 350,000 ($48,760) to RMB 400,000.
The Li i8's official price will be announced at a launch event on July 29, and deliveries will begin in late August, according to Li Auto.
BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY)-branded vehicles registered 51,400 insurance registrations last week, up 5.37 percent from 48,780 in the previous week.
The company sold 382,585 new energy-vehicles (NEVs) in June, the highest so far this year.
That's up 11.98 percent year-on-year, but up only 0.03 percent from May, and is the third consecutive month in which the year-on-year growth rate was below 1 percent, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
Xiaomi (HKG: 1810, OTCMKTS: XIACY) had 7,200 insurance registrations last week, up 7.78 percent from 6,680 the week before.
Xiaomi's EV arm, the Xiaomi EV, delivered over 25,000 units in June, it announced earlier this month.
On June 26, Xiaomi officially launched the YU7, its first electric SUV (sport utility vehicle), a Tesla Model Y competitor.
The YU7 received 200,000 firm orders in the first 3 minutes of the sale and over 240,000 locked-in orders in 18 hours, Xiaomi previously announced.
On July 6, Xiaomi EV began deliveries of the YU7.
The Zeekr (NYSE: ZK) brand saw 3,000 insurance registrations last week, down 3.23 percent from 3,100 the week before.
Zeekr Group delivered 43,012 vehicles in June, down 7.58 percent from 46,538 in May, ending the previous third consecutive month of sequential growth.

The Zeekr brand delivered 16,702 vehicles in June, down 16.93 percent year-on-year and down 11.67 percent from May.
Lynk & Co delivered 26,310 vehicles in June, up 7.66 percent from a year earlier but down 4.78 percent from May.
Leapmotor (HKG: 9863) had 8,200 insurance registrations last week, down 4.21 percent from 8,560 the week before.
It delivered 48,006 vehicles in June, its second consecutive record high.
That's up 138.65 percent from 20,116 in the same month last year and up 6.52 percent from 45,067 in May.
Aito -- a brand jointly created by Huawei and Seres Group -- had 9,500 insurance registrations last week, up 10.34 percent from 8,610 in the previous week.
